5 energy-saving life hacks: How to save on electricity bills & more

Energy bills have been rapidly rising, which is why you might want to try the following five solutions to reduce your electricity bill. These are easy to implement and once you make them a habit you will quickly see the difference reflected in your wallet.

  1. Don’t leave appliances on Standby

While Standby saves you time it doesn’t save you any move. This is because even on standby your device will be using minuscule amounts of power. This phantom power as it is known can be detrimental to your bills if you have many appliances. By switching them completely off no phantom power will be used and your bill will be lower.

  1. Switch out your bulbs

Low energy class bulbs can be very costly. By switching to LED bulbs you can save a lot on energy while getting better quality light. Replacing your bulbs also helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions, which is great for the planet.

  1. Use Solar Power

If you have the option to install solar panels onto your roof and use them for your electricity then you might be able to see your electricity bill go all the way down to zero. While this is not an option for everyone and it requires an investment, it can be worth it in the long run.

  1. Minimize your water usage

Water is another area in which you could save. Small habits such as only running the dishwasher and washing machine when full can help you save on electricity. Turning off the water while washing your hands, brushing your teeth or even showering can also lead to more savings.

  1. Check your Thermostat

Efficient usage of your home’s thermostat can help you save a lot of money. By setting your temperature at a consistent but reasonable temperature you will reduce the amount you need to spend on heating and cooling each year. One single degree up or down could lead to a 10 percent chance on your bill, so that is worth remembering.
