5 Common Snake Plant Problems & How To Fix Them

Snake Plants are beautiful to grow but sometimes, they might require a bit more of your attention to look good. Once you get the hang of knowing what is wrong with these plants you will be able to keep them not only alive but looking as vivid as possible. These are some of the most common problems you need to be on the lookout for

  1. Leaves are drooping

Snake plants are known for their upright leaves, if your plants have bent or drooping leaves then the most common reason is overwatering. As these plants store large amounts of water, if you overwater the leaves will store more than they can and start drooping. Remember that snake plants can go weeks without water, so try to water them less to see if their vibrancy will return.

  1. Deformed leaves

If your leaves are deformed, then chances are pests are your problems. Small bugs can often sap the juices from the inside of the plant, leaving the leaves looking less than prim. Pests can usually be removed with the use of a pest spray. If you find your plant has a fungal disease though, you might need to prune your plant and deal with that separately.

  1. Soft and mushy leaves

Snake plant leaves are normally firm if the plant is healthy. However, in cases where the plant is overwatered, the leaves might lose some of their firmness and start disintegrating. Make sure your pot has draining holes to avoid this problem. If the room you keep your plant in is very humid, this problem might also arise.

  1. Discolored or Yellow Leaves

This is not a common problem for snake plants, but it can occasionally occur in cases of overwatering. In general, snake plants don’t react well to a lot of water, and their leaves are where you will see the signs of their displeasure with your watering habits.

  1. Wrinkled Leaves

Wrinkled leaves are usually the effect of really hot weather or excessive sunlight. Both of these can cause your plant’s leaves to wither and look not as healthy as they should. Try moving your plant to a shadier area to avoid these problems.
